Turkey welcomed the recognition of the referendum results --favoring Southern Sudan's independence-- by Sudan's government.
Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a press release issued on Wednesday, said the recognition of Southern Sudan's independence by the government of Sudan was the sign of the matureness of democracy in Sudan.
The Ministry said Turkey would continue to support the people of Sudan without any discrimination between the north and the south.
"The messages given by Sudan's government in the aftermath of the referendum, emphasizing peace, cooperation and friendly relations, are praiseworthy," the Ministry said.
"We hope the international community would take into consideration the political and democratic maturity displayed by Sudan, and changes the way it views this country," said the Ministry.
