The Turkish diplomatic service is to assist citizens who want to leave Gaza, as the Israeli bombardment of the Palestinian territory shows no sign of ending.
A statement posted on Saturday on the Foreign Ministry’s website asked Turkish nationals to contact the embassy in Tel Aviv or the consulate in Jerusalem.
There are 120 Turks in Gaza, some working for NGOs and others married to Palestinians. According to the Turkish media, et least 40 Turks accepted to leave the enclave, while others decided to stay. Those who wants to leave have been evacuated through Israeli crossings.
The announcement comes as Israel’s military offensive, Operation Protective Edge, continues and the casualty toll mounts. Attacks have left 165 Palestinians dead since Tuesday.
