Turkish police detain Belgian ISIL suspect

World Bulletin / News Desk

Turkish police sources on Tuesday said they detained a Belgian national in Istanbul last Thursday for suspected links to the ISIL terrorist organization.

The sources said Istanbul anti-terrorist police arrested the man during an operation against ISIL in the city’s Fatih district as he was making preparations for a bomb attack.

The suspect had apparently been to Syria with his wife and child, where he joined ISIL some three years ago.

Legal procedures at police headquarters in Istanbul are ongoing.

Nearly 320 people have lost their lives in ISIL attacks in Turkey, where the terror organization has targeted civilians in suicide bomb, rocket and gun attacks.
